Did this: http://mbwales.com/en/content/cms/Bases ... rlech.aspx with my brother yesterday. Also took along my sister (who hasn't ridden any proper MTB). It's a fairly good trail with a lot of fireroad climbing (1000m) rewarded with 3 excellent downhills that get more techinical each time. Not very long (12 miles) and took us 2 hours to do in the pouring rain.
We then went and waited in the bike friendly pub for my sister to take another 3 hours(!) to complete the trail. As it's only an hour from my parents I may try the black graded Raven trail next time (you can combine the 2). It's about 2 hours drive from Afan so you could add it to a weekends riding And no, I didn't fall off.

We where planning on a trip to Afan next year.... Can your parents cater for some well behaved mtb'ers :lolno: :lolno:

The only sister worth taking MTB is called Rachel Atherton.... Then we will all be playing catchup

Nope, think she enjoyed it really, even though she did manage to get lost despite the whole route being waymarked!

Not sure my parents place is a any good as a base. Plenty of room, just a bit far to drive to any purpose built trails.
My brother is in Cardiff though so he is not very far from Afan or Cwmcarn, luck git.
