I just booked mine too. Not sure how it works with numbers, I guess they will email me the confirmation. See you there Bob. I hope I made the right choice going for the 4hr race, its a first for the novice.

Shame that Madasnibbor cant make it but Feb 23rd is just round the corner.

Hi,
Pick up your nr at the start / reg .
Same nr for the 4 races .
Dont panick.
Just go out and enjoy yourself.
Go at your own pace .
Trick is to get away from the 2 hr racers as they fly past you.
dont know how fit you are etc but first lap do not get carried away with it all .
Enjoy the first 5 min then settle down to a nice pace.
first lap see what is a head and try to remember where the tricky bits are and where to speed and recover for hills .
2 nd lap you can go for a better time.
3rd lap you are in race mode and looking to get in a mongst it all.
Remember 2 hours racers finish in the third hour .
4th hour you are then decding to go for a extra lap ( if in you can or hiding in the bushes so you do not have to do another killer lap.
End of the lot is time to relive it and say the good bits parts to improve on and how to get a better race position.

What I will garrantee is once you do it you want to do plenty more.
Check your bike is good order . (Spare tube )
Drinking water etc plenty of -you will be amazed how much you will consume.
Food for a pick me up is good for the mind as well as the body.
try not spend to much time at stns as this adds to your lap time
I got myself a hydration bag now so hope to get a couple of laps in not stopping........
looking to get 5 laps in .
Sub 1hours each lap and go for the 5th in 4 plus hours.
I am sure the rest is up to you .
try and get there early to settle down but not get over worried.
lots of parking but later you get there the further from the reg/start . water stn is before the finish line dont do what I did a carry a sack load of stuff half way round the track looking for it.
Best of luck and most important dont hurt yourself and enjoy it all.
Bob

Cheers Bob. I am not worried about the timing, I just want to finish the race. As it is a first for me, the timing is irrelevant. Yeah, plenty of liquid needed I read. Nothing mentioned in the Race Rules about illegal substances so I guess I can fill up the water bag with 2l of beer. No one can say I cheated ;-).

Hi
I am doing a lot of o/time on week ends at the moment , it is silly season at Fords again.
I will cry if I pay for a race and dont do it cos of the money factor.
I might just do one at a time but it is cheap block booking them....

Got till Feb for the opening reg.

Hi ,
Another thing I found out is as long as you complete 1 lap you get a time and a result. .
Not neccessarily a result that you would like .

Hi all,
Looks like a big mass start 68 on the line for the 4hour , followed by hundreds in the two hour 10mins later.
Hopefully the flat wide start for a half a mile will give us all achance to get into the woods ..
Good riding to you all in the race and say high to the red camber man as you go past ( There was two bikes the same last time .......

Hi Bob. All confirmed for the 4hr race on sunday. No number yet...being processed. I has hoping for a dry week but it does not seem the be the case. I hope it wont get as muddy as epping otherwise it will feel like a 6hr race. I sh I uld make it there before 9am.

Good to see we have another group behind. After my easy first lap hopefully they will keep the pressure on to push harder on the second.

I am new to this too but I will be able to give you more info on Monday but from what I have read 1 lap is around 30min (I am yet to test it). Below is the link to the trail map

http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/eng-ee-thetford-bike-map.pdf/$FILE/eng-ee-thetford-bike-map.pdf

I dont know which one of the three we will be riding but i suspect it wont be just one of them but a mix of the three. No Hebden Bridge hills here I am afraid. To give you an idea of the pace the race 2 lap times are below. Rather irrelevant since I dont know the length of the lap.

http://www.timelaps.co.uk/assets/uploads/EVENTREPORT.aspx?eventid=271FireRoad2401/12/2013#4Hr%20Male

I tried to have some 2 hrs rides these 2 weeks but Danbury was way too muddy to enjoy the ride. only managed 3 rides. On Monday i will know where I am on fitness level ahead of Race 4.
