Well if i bring a good gas bbq, it will save the messing about with the cheap disposable ones. All will be welcome to use it etc.

I've got a question for you guys, on the site it says this...

Quote:
The whole course is rollable, as long as you’re careful.
There are some really big jumps at Cwmcarn, but you can easily go
round them if you want to. However, if you do like to fly then you’re in for
a real treat.

just how big are we talking here, comparing the jumps to those currently at Danbury for example ??

Cwm carn has a xc trail and a downhill course and a little skills area on top of the valley.

The xc trail there are no real jumps, just lots of single track and berms and this is the one that i have done before and intend to ride if we go there. Its lots of fun with a steep techical climb.

No point in doing the DH course unless you intend to do the uplift as it only takes 7 ish mins to ride down while the xc course will take 30 ish mins to get down. If you did the DH course the jumps are all table tops so very roller able, i did it on my 130/140 mm travel bike but to get the most out of it looking at 150 mm. Jumps are same size as the large table top at Danbury.

Not too big then, to me that table is a comfortable size on my HT and a lot of fun, peoples opinions on 'big' vary a lot so good to get some perspective.

Thanks.

Cwm carn dh doesnt compare to Danbury imo.

Cwm carn is rocky and steep, danbury is flat and smooth. Id happily ride danbury on the ht with no pads or armour. Wouldnt go near cwmcarn without armour as its rocky and fast. Seen people do it on a HT but you would be slow and have to take the smoothest line at every option.

The tables might be similar in size but the approaches into them are completely different. Cwm carn is fast, rocky and loose. Danbury is smooth compacted mud.

That said there are alternative lines around the tables and booters but the DH course is so much more than the tables towards the end. Rocky switchbacks and consecutive rock drops in the middle are tough on the arms. Starts with lots of jumps on the top.

Agree with the others about a 140-150 being the min for (having fun at)cwmcarn,

This will give you a idea what the DH runs are like. Few friends have been. I assumed we were doing xc and single track, So I was going to bring the HT that I crash around bedgebury on. I'll pack the DH bike if need be but a uplift is key to DH.

23rd works well for me also.

@beardee I want suggesting anyone compare the trail to Danbury just the size of the 'big' jumps only for some sort of reference.

Hi guys

Have ridden Cwm Carn and It's awesome, 5 of us rode this 4 of us on 120mm xc bikes and the other on a hardtail all had good fun, we had the uplift service for the downhill most of the morning, then in the afternoon we got them to drop us off 2/3 of the way up to pick up the xc track loop around the mountain and down, did that a couple of times, just a bit of info for you.

We stopped at the forest of dean on the way home last time we went, the red route last decent is one of the best smooth DH runs we have ever ridden, It's like a 10min rollercoaster.

The only thing I would say about camping at Cwm Carn is that a lot of people have things stolen over night so I've heard so be carefull, but as I say that's just what I hear, we stayed at a local B & B for just £21 a night, nothing special but good shower, clean bed and good breakfast maybe worth considering.

Have a good one.
