Ive had good luck with http://sites.google.com/site/iphoneitrail/ and managed to map a lot of epping with it

http://www.essexhertsmtb.co.uk/other/map.html - using a 3g

Tranny was saying at the weekend that the iphone 4 does an even better job

I use nike+GPS for tracking runs on the i phone 4. will let you know when i find the best bike app!
