I ride Thetford quite a lot, I was there a couple of weeks ago and some sections were incredibly slow but other were running quite nicely. The sandy soil drains fairly fast but it does leave your bike in need for to TLC afterwards, especially as the compressions between the bumps turn into muddy puddles! Its has some fun flowing trails and is generally quite a laugh. Heres a video we made; hope it gives you an idea of what the trails are like:

I like it over there but dont go often (5 times in 2012)as in the time it takes me to get there I can get to Chicksands/Aston hill. I do however go over to Tunstall forest in Suffolk which is very similar terrain but no marked trails......Yet.

Id save Thetford for a nice sunny day when you dont want to do any climbing, A red trail at Thetford is nothing like a red trail in Wales but once your going flat out in to tight corners through narrow trees it makes more sense,

Thees also lots of unmarked trails at Thetford that dont get hammered daily and are a hoot but its a case of just riding round the forest and finding openings in the trees then hammering down as fast as u can in to the unknown.

One big issue to be aware of going to Thetford is the RIDICULOUS car park charge. Strongly suggest parking out on the roads and then joining the route where it bisects the fire road. Good bike shop, excellent cafe,

That's a good tip, I used to park at the fire road in the dip by the start of the beast.
Very good bike shop that is true.

Im lead to believe that brandon country park only costs £2.50 for the day. If I remember rightly the Beast runs along side a road that forms the western boundary of thetford forest. Brandon country park car park is just down that road
