I have rebuilt the do-it-all machine that is my Giant ReignX and am wanting to kit it out with a dropper seatpost, the question is which one?

I hear good and bad things about all the posts and have seen the forum reviews but wondered what the EHmtb consensus was.

Options considered

Gravity dropper - simple spring set up?
KS - the classic dropper but lots of reliability issues?
RS Reverb - the new "best in show" but then Nigel goes and blows his up!

Let the opinions roll....

I run the KS mate and its done fine. Just needs regular maintenance. But as I understand, they all need regular fettling.

The Giant one looks like a version of the KS but definitely in there for consideration.

I have been looking at these recently. I also like the look of the Crank Brothers Joplin. I dont know how good it is but it keeps appearing. The reviews look ok.

I have had a ks, Joplin and reverb. On thefroggy I have the ks which hasn't been any trouble over the summer. It's an i950. On the zesty I have had the reverb for 9 months and it has been back once as it blew up in Wales. Apparantly they come with updated seals now so should be ok. I've had 3 Joplin 4's and each one was shite....hope this helps fella..!

Just about to invest myself and having researched all of them (until you added the new Giant Contact one - thanks John!), it seems the extra investment for the Reverb is the way to go for maintenance free fun. They have just released the 2012 version which improves slightly on the original but many of the online shops seem to still be selling the original version.

New one has an enduro clamp which you can clearly see is different in the pictures of 2011 vs 2012 models.

I'm heading to NY next week so was going to pick one up there for hopefully around 200 quid instead of 300 but getting a 30.9 diameter 125mm drop 385mm length right handed 2012 model seems rather challenging. Wiggle over here has them for 260 which is pretty good but again, the size I want for my giant anthem is out of stock until December so I guess a popular size.

Must admit the Giant one looks and sounds a good deal and only comes in the size we would both need but I guess it's to early to say what it's like in terms of maintenance.

Cheers,

Phil.

Not sure on the details it was a second hand account from karve. 2012 version does seem to have some changes to counter the main problems people have had - still £100 more than the giant one though!!

I ve got a joplin and the seat keeps falling back. Doesn't matter how much I tighten it.

RockShox Reverb or Specialised Command have the best magazine reviews

The Fox DOSS is slated for a 2013 release but that's a little long to wait though
