Does it work with a magnet on springs to engage / disengage the locking pin in the black box on the post?

It's just a pin that is slotted. It doesn't seem magnetised. The cable was not taking the slack at the lever end I've ordered a jagwire kit to stop the friction in the cable.

I'm going to need new brakes though as its a real confidence booster.

Here we go attempt 2, jag wire outer fitted with a Clarks prelubed inner as the jag wire had too big a nobble (no clue of the real name)on the end. It stopped the pin returning.
If you were not practical minded it would seem unfixable

I would order an eBay special jag wire kit and a Clarks pre lubed cable but that came from the garage stores ( god knows where it came from)

It was faultless last night

On the left (the black one ) shows a jag wire nobble which compared to the original on the right is a lot bigger and prevents the post operating properly. I found an old Clarks prelubed cable and this works a treat (only one ride so far) so early days but seems more positive with the Clarks/ jagwire combo.

IMO the original inner(non lubed) and cheap outer are the problem but time will tell

I forgot to mention that the rubber end on the remote parted company first ride but the rubber bits that come in the jagwire kit make a fitting replacement :)

Mine never had the rubber bung and being the older version the cable adjuster is up by the lever rather than by the collar, unless the cable is the wrong way around ?

what i have found is that if I get to the point where it needs a clean out / service and stops working properly i can just wind in the cable housing on the collar so the nipple (phnaaaar) is so far into the post it cant possibly pop out and it makes my seat locked into position until i get time to service it, you don't seem to have that luxury with your black collar so will need to be more on the ball with servicing i guess ?

you can see the cable housing and collar here:

if you wind it all the way as shown in the pic the cable will never release the pin as it wont move enough, i wound mine in when i first got it, its why i thought it was broken, but i needed to wind it out until it worked smoothly, its a fine line between the pin holding the post up and it dropping though :/

It doesn't matter what you ride
