There is no right or wrong answer. I struggle to ride DH now without spd's, as find i get bounced off the pedals otherwise.

Can't say I have ever used spd's for the apparent increased pedal efficiency...I am a slow climber, and that has ever changed.

I do a fair bit of racing, mainly enduro but the odd dh race here and there, and would never go back to flats for racing, unless conditions dictated it. However, I always go back to flats every winter to stop relying on being clipped in.

Sort of similar to the full sus vs hardtail debate - you should use the advantages of spd's to make you a better rider, dont't use them to hide your inabilities. If you find this is the case, go back to flats and learn the fundamentals, such as jumping, drops etc
