Clean chains last longer. Wipperman connector link makes proper cleaning quick and easy IMO.

Where are you looking VW? http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k513/a ... l?mfid=580
Dill, SRAM, KMC and other also have the 'quick link' so taking the chain on and off is easy. Only Shimano have the annoying pin that can only be used once. They claim that it makes a stronger chain.

The black one looks nice too. May try it on the next chain change.

My chain & cassette are also up for renewal!HG62, both have lasted a year roughly around 2,500 miles ! analy cleaned my drive chain after each ride!, mainly due to degreaser & oils being supplied by work! merlin cycles are doing some good deals at the mo on cassette & chains been looking at the XT range myself, P.S I no wot you mean regarding the shimano pins! pain...

This interests me.
Had new drivetrain/chain & jockey wheels beginning of Oct.I clean & degrease as I too like a shiny drivetrain.
3 months in & chain is fecked, cassette showing wear. I do similar mileage, roughly 40 miles a week. Had sram last time but went xt this time. Jockey wheels look like throwing stars, lower one is sharp.
My chain length etc is ok, had it checked. Confusing

Sounds like your chain line might be too extreme

I get through a chain a year on average - probably about 1000k on the mtb - 2000k on the road bike - newer 11sp chains deffo stretch more readily than old 9spd.
