Doing Thorndon ride, meet at kart track by Izumi for 9:45 for a 10 am start...

Nice brisk ride around the good bits it has to offer, may stop for bacon on way round... Prepare to get muddy as some places will still be soaked.....

Some places will be wet..? I'm in anyway and I'll have me few quid for the bacon ;)

I would love to join you. I can't wait to get permission to be a Roadie from my surgeon next Friday :)

Went for an early evening loop through Warley Gap "downhill" bit, Hartswood and Thorndon tonight. A lot muddier than you might expect considering how dry and fast running it was just a few weeks back. I'd taken my mud tyres off and put the Captains back on and it was all over the place.
Got away with just dunking my foot up to my socks in thick mud at the end of Warley Gap bit (they were nice clean Five Tens :). Then wiped out twice on that trail that runs alongside the stream in Thorndon when I hit those mud patches half way along and the bike just slid out from under me.
Wishing I'd kept the Bonty Mud XRs on. I may try and make it out tomorrow.

Cool parfed... Thanks for the heads up on the trail... I put my summer tyres back on the big wheeler today in anticipation for the conditions expected...

All that are coming just look for the large group of bikers congregating in a bunch at the carpark by the kart track (or look for my blue RAV4) :-)

Adam... You can't mention those roadie words on a predominantly MTB forum... Shame shame oh the shame ;-) ;-)

Hi guys,

I was hoping one of you guys might be able to help, i live just down the road from Thorndon (Harold Hill) and am hoping to finally get out for a ride this week (feels like it's been forever!) so thought i'd go for an explore over there. I'll just ride up Warley Road i'd imagine, save getting the bike rack out and get my legs warmed up!

Anyway, long story short, as i haven't got any local knowledge have you got any tips for where i should start and and directions or gps coordinates?

thanks all!

Your best bet is to join of the ride (check calendar - thus it has been quiet lately). If not I am sure somebody will offer you to tag along. I sometimes go in the week, if I manage to get a free pass I will let you know

I've ridden Thorndon loads of times and local knowledge is key to a good ride...

I've tried it a few times on my own but seem to have a different route each time..!

There are a group that don't really post it here but that go most Sunday mornings at 10am from the karting track - I went out with them Sunday and it was a blast.

Cheers Ian, looks like a decent loop even without the bits in Brentwood (I'll be coming from the other direction if i ride up...)

Have managed to pick up my bike and get a pass for tonight so i'm going to head over there for an explore this evening...

Unfortunately this weekend i can only do Saturday AM so i'll have to do the Sunday ride another week...

Thanks again for all the advice!

MikeStan.
