So I'm thinking that after the muddy climb up to High Beech maybe head west into Gunpowder Park just to make a change from the 2mph mudfest. Then back up and loop into parts of the normal route?

Not exactly hardcore MTB but maybe a chance to stretch the legs....

The Avey Lane climb on the way back up should be fun

10:00am at Bury Rd car park. http://goo.gl/maps/BFzFT

The car park linked looks a bit different now as it's in two halves now... rough part and a tarmac part. Either part is fine as you can see one from the other.

I'll be in a blue VW Transporter.

All welcome :)

Hi Bugeye

I'll be there, so will be good to meet you and the other regulars.
Will be on a 1x9 hardtail, so avoiding the 2mph mudfest sounds great! :)
What will it be; 2+ hours riding? In other words, do I need a couple of Powerbars, or a full packed lunch? ;)
Look out for a grey BMW estate and a purple Kona.

Oh there'll be mud all right... just swapping one muddy bit for a mud free bit :D

We usually ride for about 3 to 4 hours.... nearer 4 right now as the going is so slow. I'd say a few powerbars and save the packed lunch for the summer when it's worth riding for longer ;)

The road down to Gunpowder Mills and the paths there won't be muddy... the rest varies between very and extremely ;)

I've been out for a very easy 4 mile run tonight to test my legs an' lungs after having 11-days off with a chest infection.
Was hard work just moving at what would normally have been a slow pace, but it felt great to get my body moving again! Planning a 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride Saturday at a very easy effort just to see if the legs are functioning properly :)

Afternoon chaps -

I went out to Woburn this morning. Was great to ride around for 90 minutes and explore the trails, but I was done after 90min! Breathing still not great post-infection, so I'm going to skip the ride tomorrow. I plan to go ride for c.2hrs very easy, but this ride would be too much at the mo.

Have a good one!

Ultrahound , it's hard work building yourself back up I ruptured my appendix last April then had complications so currently have no right core strength. Remember just getting out is a move in the right direction :)

Hi guys,
I will be in London for 2 weeks and, as I'm a rider, I would like to ride a MTB into the Epping forest to train myself, the 23rd of Februry, starting in the morning for about 3 or 4 hours. I would like to ask if there is any possibility to hire a bike and helmet and, if possible the shoes to avoid to keep them from Italy.
I'm located in Strattford, is it possible to arrive there byTube.
Regards
Roberto

Good ride today  lovely weather and in a funny way all the rain helped to keep the mud nice and wet... avoiding the really claggy glue stuff :lolno:

Ultrahound... shame you missed it but there's always next Sunday ;)

Quintabiker... not sure who could help, maybe try some of the local bike shops ?

Will be the Sunday after, bugeye, as I'm off to Cornwall for a few days on Tuesday. Looking forward to some down-time and coastal trail running :-)

I did get a 90min ride in today, though. Popped out to Broxbourne woods and did a few laps of a c.3mile loop.

Very annoyed that i couldnt ride on the best day of the year. Do you think Epping would be relatively dry tomorrow with all the sunshine its had today? And considering it doesnr rain ofcourse... Im thinking of going for an early ride tomorrow on my commuter. Just gave it a service today.

The freehub came off your wheel with no troubles. Took me no time at all.

The freehub on my wheel doesnt come off with an allen key like yours did. So annoyed at that. Now trying to find out what it is. Its a sort of spline fitting.

My brake side bearings came out in red rust lol! Bone dry. Surprised as it didnt actually cause any troubles. The inside of the hub where the bearings go look to be in quite a bad way but will give it a proper cleaning tomorrow to see just how bad it is.
