That would explain it.

Ive just had a quick look and 22/32/42-4 seems to be the standard triple chainset ratios. doubles tend to be similar to yours. Theres a lot of advice about just taking off the outer ring but not much is made of changing chain ring sizes.

More ebaying by the looks of it.
Im upgrading the entire drive train soon so am going to 2 x10, the mrs did a good job of winning a brand new SLX front mech for £8.50 last night while I was out, already got the crank set rear. rear mech and shifters next.

Yeah, with 32 front and 11 at the back you wont get much speed unless you pedal like Lance Armstrong on speed. I suspect most of us would have been riding fastest with 36T or 38T ring and 11 cog like i was. Your range is rather narrow for XC ride.

Ive got 32 up front with 11-36 and 42t at front, doesnt look like there is enough chain for a bigger front ring on mine
