MarkL are you the guy we passed in the woods last night? we were riding there last night and we passed a mountain biker with no helmet on, someone said it was MarkL. I said it couldnt have been as i didnt think any herts and essex mtbr would be daft enough to cycle in the woods without a helmet?

There's an awful lot of evidence available which suggests that the elastic rebound effect of helmets is causing brain injury within the Skull. Both Schumacher and Natasha Richardson were wearing helmets for example in relatively low speed crashes.
Factor in as well that I was cycling slowly alone in an (soft ) area with no phone reception and didn't want any false sense of security leading to a broken collar bone or ankle, miles from anywhere.

I would, of course, have been wearing a helmet, if I had been cycling back by road or been at an organised event, or a more extreme area such as Chicksands or even in a group surrounded by other cyclists concentrating on their own lines.............

So not daft, not anti - just making a judgement call

So it was you?

cant say i agree with your philosphy but respect your right to make your own judgement call. personally i would never cycle anywhere without my helmet on.

id like to see you cycle slowly and safely when those two rottweilers that are often off the lead come running after you lol ;-)

It's really not a philosophy. Just a choice on the day.
Also had a 18" Bow saw, secateurs, trench shovel, pump, allen keys, pliers, patch kit and 2 litres of water in my backpack so going over the handle bars really not an option

- But I reckon I could mess up those two dogs pretty bad and give them a nice burial ( if they gave me time to unpack LoL)

I've been riding these woods for 3 yrs and only just found these trails 6wks ago or so. I also bumped into Mark (assume it's MarkL) up there today who pointed me towards this site and showed me around even more.

Some of the best singletrack I've ever ridden. Well done people!

Hi there.

i've gone to wormley for the first time today, got lost off course…. and met mark L there too. hi there.

i thought i'll have another run and then promptly lost where the track was… doh!!!

very confusing.. if you get hurt there when riding alone, the ambulance would have a hard time finding you!!!

You wouldn't be the first skeleton I have found over there........

Joking apart
Pack a football whistle if your worried about not being found before the magpies's peck your eyeballs out.

Sorry, work got in the way this week. Not to mention a pesky snapped shock bolt.

Hoping to be up there on Sunday am but, most likely on the retrobike...I'll be the fool on the 1992 Kona with a silly grin.
