Hey,

Does anyone else own or ride a road bike as well as a MTB?

I've recently got one for training. No Lycra here yet though!! hahaa. I actually quite enjoy riding it! It's a totally different experience and style of riding but really satisfying!!

Just wondered if anyone else has one!!

:?

I have done in the past when I used to do Road Time Trials and then do the North Wales MTB winter series (Eastridge ruled!), I found road bikes an excellent way to put the extreme miles in which helped massively with stamina and strength, in particular for hill climbing fitness.

I own a road bike, two in fact a carbon fibre summer machine and a single speed hack/commuter. i do a lot of sportive type rides and during the summer regularly rack up around 200 miles a week, due to the fact that its part of my job.

Ive got a fixed for hacking round town. Built to be bomb proof and chuckable. I probobly do about 120 miles a week on it and it all ways leaves me grinning like an idiot.

Wow ggg!!!! That fixie looks mint!!!!

Ok right now I know I'm not alone I can ask my question. hahaaa

I have a 56cm Specialized Allez 27 Comp. Its a 2008 model I bought cheap off a BMXer who used it as a training bike. The problem is the 56cm is just too small and I'm looking to change to a 60cm! (Yes that's how small it is for me!!)

I have seen a nice Carbon Fiber Planet X frame which i was going to then just chuck all my bits on, problem is, its going to end up being frame, forks, headset, seat clamp, seat post and front mech. which will be nearly £300.

Is it worth the effort? As i don't want to spend a fortune as its only a training bike but don't want to ride a total shed.......

Ha yer i understand that.

I always justify it by working out how much im going to use it. Im not blowing a fortune using the car/public transport for most of the week and im getting fitter then its all good. Just devide the cost by the number of rides youll get out of it and it will all start to look like an investment. If im going to ride it a lot then why not. Bikes are suposed to be good to ride not a ball ache

Amen to that! Well this is the thing! I am hoping to get a lot more use out of it when the weather gets better but am properly skint at the minute so splashing out on a new frame forks etc seems a real luxury!

Wait till i get paid and it'll be a different story!!! Roll on friday and then i'll go spending!! Will post pics when its all done!!!!

Is it worth £300 building up a Planet X frame? Is that the question?

Cause if that the question I would say yeh, they not bad frames.

But as ggg says, it all depends on how much you gonna use it.

I ride my 29er on the road. Cost me nothing but tyres.

I agree with noel build it to be as versatile as possible. Depends on the frame style but if you build it pretty solid youll end up using a lot more. I use that fixi for xc rides and just hacking through flat woods a lot in the summer as well as ripping round town. Im never going to win any races at either on it but it gets use a lot..

Bikes? To use on a road? What an unpleasant idea.
