Danbury KILLED my brand new helmet. This damage may not look all that bad but poke it with your finger and it feels like sponge Bob....

So enough cursing and onto helmet purchase!

Wow - must have been a big smash - imagine if that was ur head!

Been running a THE for the last 3 years and love them so that would be my vote - quite like the larey coloured one.

Just one of those solid no sliding or rolling impacts. Splat!

The loud THE is my first choice but its got a big Chainreactionscycles logo on the other side that is making me consider the others.

Even though I like the look of the logo, I just dunno if I like the idea of a big billboard on my head.

What size do you have Jon?

I do like Giro, but the 661 and THE are both on sale all price so its an attractive offer. Might buy them both and try for size and just keep the one that fits best.

Much prefer the look of the 661 though!

I been thinking about that too, but it must have taken a significant enough bang I reckon, considering the landing was enough to burst the front tire tube? And I landed on hip then head.

Damn Bradley why wasn't your camera rolling then!

I think this is the one!

Good price! And no CRC logo, instead I have some weird Las Vegas chick on the side!

Blimey Noel, that is a serious dent mate.

From how you described the hit I would think a sudden stop impact would cause it to cave in as the design is intended to take the shock away from you skull. Bet you got a sore neck as well.

FYI - I have THE helmet as well and fit is brilliant. Also have you tried contacting the manufacturer? as I have a really vague recollection of reading somtehing somwhere that sometimes they will consider selling another at half price if yours is damaged in use. Worth a go anyway!

Neck, shoulder and hip are killing me. But just gotta keep moving otherwise I get very stiff and feel sorry for myself.

I reckon you are right about the cave in design. I know thats how XC helmets are designed but wasn't sure about DH helmets. I have contacted O'Neal to find out about a test to see if its now bin worthy, but when I pushed finger on the mark yesterday it disappeared, so I guess there is no mystery there. Its binned!

"THE" are on at less than half price at the moment, hence the reason for not contacting O'Neal for a replacement. Besides after I saw Jon's sometime last year and my own XC "THE" fits like a glove! I think I am pretty much sold on them. Now you also give it praise. Its sold I reckon!

Just trying to find a design among the sale lot that doesn't make me look like a complete burk.

Blimey - that sounds like a pretty spectacular stack, what happened, where abouts were you.

(as a fellow Danbury casualty of the past (broken hand) i welcom you to the club!

Re the helmets - i think they are all good - i went troy lee cos i needed xxl and the price was good. i recommend the D2 but like the look of the giro (jjust wouldn't fit on my head)

No headache afterwards??

That white THE looks nice!. I have a remedy which is a fine helmet but not sure about this years colour scheme (or is it me getting old)
but like you said go for the best fit. for example the none of the 661's did fit me (even the xl was to small???)

Personally I am not a too big of a fan of all those carbon helmets which cost twice as much but are only a bit lighter and are not per default any safer (check also the ratings, not all full facers have the same rating)

you trash a helmet every two to three years so I dont like spending 300 bucks on fancy carbon if composite does the job at a third of the price
