We're off to Morocco on the 19th. I've checked the website, which has the following:

http://www.easyjet.com/en/bicycles

•"The bicycle must be packaged in a bicycle box or bag
•Only one bicycle per box/bag is permitted
•No other items can be carried in the bicycle box/bag (i.e. clothing)
•The handlebars must be flush with the frame.
•Pedals must be removed or flush against the frame"

http://www.easyjet.com/planning/baggage

•"One passenger travelling buys a bag and an additional sporting allowance. This gives an allowance of 2 items (which must include 1 sporting item), at a total weight of 32kg. However, if the sporting item is 18kg and the bag is 14kg then that’s fine with us!"

Basically, we can spread 32kg over two bags.

Has anyone had any practical experience of Easyjet and bikes? Are they strict to 32kg? I'm not sure I can get both bike and hold bags in at 32kg......might have to lose some shoes and suntan oil :eh:

Flying from Gatwick.

32kg is absolute limit for single item for health n safety reasons, I've flown from stansted to geneva lots of times and can't recall my bike bag getting weighed, BUT this year at gatwick they did and it was over and were strict about it, I ended up putting some bits in luggage bag and threw other bits in bin ! At geneva on way back is was slightly over but they didn't seem to care. A standard bike even a dh one should be no where near 32k but chuck some extra tools, pads n spares n it soon adds up.

To add there is no weight limit on overhead cabin baggage but there is for hold luggage but they are seperate from your bike allowance.

This is very confusing every year. I traveled with a 32kg bike bag + a paid for 18kg hold luggage to Geneva over the summer. 50kg total weight and had no issues. We had a debate before hand as to how to interpret Easyjets rules. At the time

http://www.easyjet.com/planning/baggage
Mirrored what you said but there was an get out of jail caveat here
http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers ... kw/bicycle
which said that bikes were exempt from excess baggage. I printed it and took it with me.

Have a look at the thread over here
http://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomme ... agenum=568

However now http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers ... kw/bicycle - is a dead link - so potentially that caveat has been removed.

In certain there is no link or 'total' between your bike bag and other luggage. There is no excess for bike bags, just the definitive rule...it must be under 32kg.

The 32 rule applies to all bags, it's there to stop airport staff breaking their backs !

I took bike bag and backpack from amazon which is exact size for cabin, there is no weight limit for cabin bags but it says you must be able to lift it into locker and I assume the final 32 limit also applies.

This one:

I don't think the forum coding likes the link as cannot use ....?

.

Although they still imply that only 32kg is allowed for one person with a piece of sports kit and a hold bag.

Although it does not imply bicycle bags in the sporting equipment category. Bicycles are perhaps treated seperately to say skis for example.

Hmmm, how to play this one.

Ah ha - found the caveat at the same time as you

"A non-refundable sports equipment fee will be charged. The bicycles are exempt from additional excess baggage charges."

So i would interpret that as I did over the summer.

32kg for the bike bag
18kg for paid carry on
so total is not over 50kg

But do so at your own risk! let us know how you get on.

They don't weigh bike bag and other bags together anyway so they'd never know the total, you'd weigh the bike bag (if at all) at the seperate oversized luggage section.

So yes you can have 50 in total but not 40 & 10 and not 25 & 25, assuming the luggage limit is 18.

The more you read the various online advice the more confused you get !

What the hell is no refundable sports eqpt fee ? And there is no excess for any eqpt as far as I know, just the one 32 limit.

They have made me pop the bike bag on the counter scales in the past. Luton last year and Stansted the year before but not at Geneva so I wouldn't count on that

Well I had to weigh mine but at the seperate oversized bit, anyway the point is that they don't weigh bikes n baggages together n come up with totals.

Still it did make me think how bloody heavy my bike was which is why I'm putting finishing touches to my new slightly lighter bike !

I've taken bike on easy jet twice this year.

Bike bag is 32kg
Hold bags are what ever there policy states
Hand luggage has been my full face lid lol.

As long as your bike bag weighs under 32kg you will be fine. I put a full down hill bike plus amour etc and it comes to 30kg in my bike bag.

In short it is all easy going. Just don't go over you single item weights and make shore you pre book you bike bag. Costs 27 quid I think.
