I took the wheels off my bike to clean it at the weekend . . Put wheels back on and went to ride it yesterday. now my back wheel is making noises sounds like the plastic rear cassete cover rubbing on spokes but cant see it rubbing .. is it ok to remove the cassete guard ? , also the break isnt working now the lever is really loose when you press it.

I would always start by clicking the shifter all the way down the cassette then put the wheel in and take care not to knock the brake pad spring clip with the disc

Sounds like the pad spring is catching the disk... Also yes it is best to remove those plastic cog guards

Thanks for the replies guys. Ill be removing the plastic guard then. I have taken the wheel off and put it back on a few times . Disc seems to be inbetween the pads... just nothing when i press the lever.
