Right, looking to protect Jamie (my son).

He's got a decent xc lid but I'm looking for something a little more hard wearing and that will offer more protection - not sure I'm looking for a full face...

Looking for knee/shin pads - not rigid.

Looking for elbow/forearm pads - not rigid.

I may start ordering bits from CRC so I can judge sizes, am a fan of TLD & 661 - I've full sets of both and love them. POC pads look sweet as do some FOX & Nukeproof.

Jamie's enjoyment is #1 to me; so as he's riding more and more I want him as protected as possible without restricting him... Suggestions most welcome - especially on the lid front.

For my son got GFORM Reactive Knee Pads Protection Armour MTB Bicycle Bike G-Form from company on ebay. Not rigid, son says very comfy, they have lasted ages, can anyone recommend good gloves that are not too thick?

My son has Specialized womens ones as all the kids ones seemed bulky.

I'm also in the same boat as Stumpie, my son needs some protection gear but I can't find anywhere local to go where he can try it on for size.

That looks interesting, not sure how many knocks it'll take...

Stumpie... have you found anything yet?

Minibug has just outgrown his G-form ones and looking at options before buying the next size up.

For your info they are pretty effective... after one big off you could see where the bruise on his leg stopped where the pads started so you've got to assume it stopped a pretty big hit to his knee.

The only downside to then is they don't have any padding to 'soften the blow' but then they're pretty light weight and comfortable. Swings and roundabouts I suppose?

I tried a fair few but settled on Fox Youth Launch Pro for his knees, Met Parachute lid and he has a 661 Rage Pressure Suit for the top...

Ideally I'm looking for some soft elbow pads for him so he doesn't have to wear the suit every time...

How bulky are the knee pads... I've got the adult version and there good but quite 'big' . Would your son be happy with them on a longer, say 4-5hr ride or do you think they'd get a bit hot and sweaty?

Thinking it's almost worth getting another set of G-form pads for XC just to cover the odd slip and get a set of the fox knee pads for trail centre and shorter trickier stuff?

They are thicker than the G-form ones but I'm not sure they are as thick and heavy as the Adult ones.

That being said I think you would get hot in them - just as we do in Adult ones...

May look at the G-Form ones again... I still want elbow pads after all...

Bugeye - where do you get your kids stuff from?

The pads.... I got some direct from G form and some from the same place that's linked above.

Had a quick look and that link still seems a good price.

Just noticed they don't have the elbow pads... CRC have a set left in small?

I had the Fox ones but S/M & L/XL Youth were too small and Adult Small was too big...

I just ordered TSG Second Skin D30 Knee & Elbow pads from Skathut;

Fingers crossed these will be good.

They look good... similar idea to the g form but seem to have a thicker pad.... be interested to hear what you ( and Jamie ) think when the turn up.

I've ordered another set of G forms pads just because I know he'll wear them all day and they're fine for XC and simpler stuff.

I want to start taking him to Epping which is going mean a few more off's so I think I'll try a set of those Fox pads you linked for that sort of thing.

The TSG pads have arrived and look really good.

They have a fabric outer sleeve and the pad is a combo of hard outer skin and softer inner.

I'm hoping the fit him now...

How old if your lad bugeye?

He's 10 but usually takes a clothes size 2-3 yrs older ( like most kids these days ).

Those pads sound good with the harder shell and softer padding. Hope they fit!

I think the g form are fine for the elbows but a bit of padding behind the shell really helps on the knee I think.

If they work well pedalling the bike I think I'll get him a set of knee ones.
