I'm going to add fun to this converation...

Most frames now days increase the length of the top tube at the same time as increasing the seat tube with the frame size. I'm 5.9" but ride a large framed banshee (should be on a meidium for my height), while my frame has a low sloping top tube and there is enough room for my dropper post to fit, I have fitted a very short stem (40mm to bring the bars back in to the correct distance that i need. I have basicly looked and liked the design of mondakar bikes have.

the 19" will be too large for you but it is worth trying a larger size than expected (a medium in your case) and getting getting a short stem fitted. Get the bike shop to do this before buying anything

Thanks all for your help!

Had to collect a bike for our daughter from another Halfords today (Basildon). Guy in there was very helpful. The display Boardman was an 18" which seemed to feel quite nice for size. I think it comes down to these two:

They both seem to be pretty well speed for £1K. On-one has 120mm travel vs 100mm of the Boardman. Which has the better Brakes and Gear assembly?

Not that it's my main priority, but I do like the look of the On-one :)

Quick look at the spec, they are both similar spec level. I prefer sram than shimano (as sram you use just the thumb to go up and down the gears while index finger can hover over the brake constantly) but shimano is better built for the same price. Only other thing i would say is go for a wider bar on the boardman (740 mm) to improve confidence. Got a mate with a peckerwood custom build, he likes it. Either one is a good starter bike but i would say by the correct frame and change spec as and when you can.

This is a better spec model of my stache (well when i first go it, everything is changed other than the frame now as i liked it so much), RRP is £1800 so advertised at £1000, could offer less and see if you can get your self a bargon second hand
