The things you need are

HELMET
Bike in good running order
Gloves
Water
Good attitude
Sense of adventure
Your favourite little snack lunch munch
Mobile phone

Dan, I know exactly where you're coming from but.........

Having been on so many rides where mechanicals (of so many types) could so easily have stopped play, I suppose it's a balancing act :)

The big thing I know when I set off for a nice long ride is I want to make sure I get to do it :)

ive no idea what you mean.. im putting the funk in freeride! Tricky in 5.10s however... the stealth rubber was hindering my lightening latin rhythm

Obviously you dont crash, dont break anything and dont stray far from your car?

Not sat down again all day, should be leaving work within the next hour so may get a chance to put together the links ect.

Na....I dont do cross country. So Im never far from the car. And on the rare occasion I do, I still dont take anything. I dont get on with riding with rucksaks or bags etc

Alternately you can always ride with the guy that carries everything including the kitchen sink and not take a thing lol.
