Woke up this morning to go to work like usual, went out got in my car and coughed quite violently while sitting in my seat. The next thing I had this excruciating lower back pain, like nothing I have ever felt before. Took me about 15 mins to clamber back out and make it back to my house where I decided to lay on my back on the living room floor. Bad move, as getting back up to go see the doctor was quite an ordeal.

Doctor prescribed pain killers and alternating hot and cold pads. Also recommended I see a chiropractor or osteopath so I have one booked for this afternoon.

Basically I wanted to know if anyone has experienced anything similar or have any guidance on what to do, how to get better quicker. Can't really see me going out on the bike for a week or so now at the earliest they way I currently feel

Thanks.

Keep mobile - even if it hurts (within reason).

Also back heals really fast... but not well... so speak to somebody about strengthening your back.

BABY!

Sorry couldn't resist

Got myself some ice yesterday and have been getting up for a walk about too. The osteopath bent me about in lots of ways and I got lots of cracking noises coming out, which must be a good thing.

It does feel slightly better today. Going back for another session Thursday and I've been recommended to stay off work till Friday, just a shame I can't go out for a ride with this spare time. I have some specific exercises to do and I will ask about back strengthening on Thursday see what they say.

Happened to me 2 years ago.

it was so painful i laid in bed for 4 days unable to walk, stand, sleep, or even crawl. It was horribly painful.

I did not consult a doctor as it was impossible for me to move more than room-toilet and back!

But i did have lot's of time for internet research so I self diagnosed lumbago, violent muscle contraction of the lower back. Took me 4 days to stand/walk, 1 week to get back to work, 1 month to ride MTB.

I am quite stiff still, need some good streching every morning and every evening.

Hope you have an easier recovery but no worries, it does go away and you'll ride again :)

Funnily enough, a guy in work has been off work with a bad back, down to an ingrown hair in his spine, apparently its quite common, not sure what the condition is called though.....

pilonidal sinus

I have been operated on for it 4 times.

I have quite a bit of padding missing from my posterior as a result.

Been quiet for a few years and i am meticulous about cleaning that area.

Really not a pleasant experience.

I went into the shed last night and sat on my bike.

Not as sad as it sounds as I had a saddle to swap :) I am missing it though. I'm back at work now, driving and being physical generally, Would be nice to try and get out this weekend somewhere reasonably sedate for a ride.
