Guys - Jon and I have done a couple of these very well organised and a good laugh. We paid in advance and turned up on the day, did some practice runs early then our two race runs.

The time i did the black run is by far my favourite, particularly great as the crowd just line the steeper last half and create such a din. So you tank it along the first half of flowy flat stuff, after 50 secs your legs are killing and you are knackered at this point you rail a berm and drop jnto a steep rooty, crowd ridden bedlam!! There will be some good photographers there taking hero shots for free if it is the same as I went to. As an early race in the season there will be some great riders there which can be a real eye opener and learning experience.

May go myself if I am free.

If you have never run the black run I would recommend a practice day. They will change some of the lines before the race but most of it is the same. On my race day- the first time I managed the runs without going over the bars was my race run.

Really fancy going to watch... will you be able to ride the other trails there on the day or is that a silly idea?

Think they close all the others might be a insurance thing

good times http://essexhertsmtb.co.uk/php/flogr/in ... 3688775787

Aston hill races are a great first time race experience... the race buzz does give you riding a different angle. Those start beeps do give you quite a kick! I might be up for this.

Yeah def I went to porc for my first and enjoyed it then came here and loved it so much more mainly due to weather at porc I raced in snow and mud.

At Aston is really well organised they saw I was nervous on the start point and told me take its easy and to go at my speed I wanted to have me a real boost i raced that day on my own so was a good learning curve I really recommend it

Don't know I only have ridden the root canal track also know as 423 when I raced in sept so it will be a first for me

If you can handle those last few turns on 4-2-3 you'll be absolutely fine on the black run! Definitely worth spending a day on it, but I can't imagine you'll have much trouble.

I'm half tempted to race (never raced DH before and would come dead last), or might be there with a camera.

Here's the video from last year!
