Thanks for all the support msgs.

Was 11c sunday morning when leaving home, was -11c last year.
Got sunburnt during the race, Last year, the food and drinks froze solid.
Completed 3 laps this year, last year did 4.

Course was brilliant, amazing conditions, the best gorrick ive [s]raced[/s] ridden.

Well done to Sarpullido, vw and Rich.
Sarpullido for continuing going despite the setbacks. Well done to vw for first gorrick experience.
Course wasnt tough enough, so they both did a tour of surrey and surrounding counties beforehand.
Healing vibes to Rich.

Had tons of grip so was the course was a lot of fun, i started slow and sped down over time. I didnt finish, first two laps were great then the first mile of the next bit was going well till raced two people through, the wavey singletrack with the berms and tree jumps ending with a climb over a fall tree and drop, then i knew it was over. After that took it real easy in the granny ring and saved it for the downs.

Advantage of not being in a rush on the last lap, meant i was happy to wait before sections and let others go, waiting for a clear run. The section that started with a sharp turn down a bank, into a little jump, then down a gulley with a swerve in then up onto a mossy section with a few holes then off camber root mess twiggy trail, not ridden anything like this since Crash's departure. Well third lap had a clear run, got a bit more air off the first jump than expected, hit the second at speed, pumped after the swerve and flew, and landed in the pit that had been dug out by the side of the trail.

Didnt get to do that big drop though, missed it first lap, second lap came through too quick at junction to get line, third lap got seatpost down and was lined up, previous rider turned at the last mo, then it looked huge so changed my mind too. Stopped to put post back up and looking back wasnt too much if rolled but at speed looked big but being knackered, cold and hungry wouldnt have helped. I rode it last year though.

Awesome course in summer conditions.

Great day for team, essexhertsmtb.co.uk :)

Good luck to everyone for r2.

Won't be doing round 2 but if it was after Xmas I might of.

That drop was huge, and I didn't know it was there until my last lap, if id of seen it on my practice lap I might of tried it?
Anyone thinking about doing one of these, you gotta do it, don't think its overly serious and no fun, it was probably the most fun event I've done.

r2 was between xmas and ny last year but I think they moved it to allow the whippets to have turkey.

but someone organised the xmas ride the same day as r2 ;) :)

Looked huge from the top where you couldnt see the downslope, but from the bottom looked smaller, but if you hit it with any speed you overshoot the downslope.

Agree with vw, best course ive ridden on, was fun and good atmosphere.

Overall, great course I really enjoyed but too crowded. Hope I have learnt this lesson with the practice lap.
Next one, Tunnel Hill. Let's go for it!

Not going to make r2 now as its the xmas ride the same day.

Next gorrick for me will be either r1 or r2 of spring series at Tunnel Hill.

Good luck for r2, Sarpullido :)

I missed a great ride ion Epping Forest but rode the second round at Tunnel Hill. As the previous round, the course was superb, very grippy with bombholes, plenty of singletrack, sharp short climbs, roots and hardly any mud. It was less hard (less climbing) than round 1.

This time I did a very good start but lost control and flew over the bars on a downhill section. Fortunately it was all bushes. Second lap was fine as well but 3rd lap started to feel tired and cramps started, but not as bad as round one!! Legs didn't want to go and wasn't sure what was going on. Anyway, by the end of 4th lap I started to feel better and 5th lap felt strong, finishing strong. So it was my fault I wasn't taking enough energy. Something I expect to do better for last round in January.
Managed to do 5 laps and improved my position from 57 out of 97 to 34 out of 85. I know I can do it better.
This time I've got recorded plenty of awesome footage, including the fall ehheh. Some time next week I'll have it ready

Brave the weather
Do you know roughly how long a lap was taking you?

Well done Javi... You almost certainly would have been off more times today in Epping...

Hahha!! Epping is miles more technical than these races but hitting the course at speed when you don't know much is tricky.

My times:

Total: 04:15:29 -
1.- 00:45:39 (crash and loss of confidence for a while)
2.- 00:47:28 (Finding the pace)
3.- 00:52:05(feeling tired)
Stopped to change water bottle and eat a banana :D
4.- 00:55:38 (cramps on right leg, tired...)
5.- 00:54:39 (Feeling better, going fast and sprinting at finish line. Wasted time trying to find a gel, had to stop a search pockets!)

I think some said it was tougher cause the condition was deteriorating and by the end of the race it was much worse, but I found it fine for me. The course on first round was better, but this was similar with more (80% - 90%) singletrack. Something I liked a lot in round 2 there were no traffic jams and long queues at the start. It was easier to overtake. I bet last round going to be ace.
