Late call on this one, but after monitoring the weather I will be jamming up to Cannock Chase tomorrow with Northern. Will be aiming to get round at a fairly quick pace. Open invite if you fancy smashing out some singletrack.

As much as I'm up for it, I've a feeling i'll struggle to blend this mission into the weekend spent with the Mrs. Enjoy

That would've been a good one! Never been there. Which trails would you recommend?

There are 2 way marked trails - Follow the Dog and the Monkey Trail - that form a big figure of 8 i.e. you start on follow the dog then about half way round have the option to join onto the Monkey trail loop and do that or stick on Follow the Dog back to the trail centre.

We did 2 x loop of the Monkey trail- definitely the more fun of the 2 but overall was a great to do some trail riding on hard and fast surfaces and only 2-2.5 hours from Loughton - so not too much of a pain to get to.

Be warned though it was v. busy with bikers - which is either a good or bad thing depending on your p.o.v.!!

We did c. 34km of riding in total with ride time of 2hrs 45 - 12.4kph average and max speed of 44kph (not sure where that was recorded)

- the pace noticeably dropped on the return leg of follow the dog -but guess that's what comes of having mainly ridden Woburn on big bikes and rarely over 16km distance of trail riding in Epping over the past few months!!!

The last 10k absolutely buggered me! I need to do some longer days out to get some saddle time in.

Good dryish fun though and a nice option when you get tired of the southern mud fest.

Thanks for the info, northern.
I've got some long rides to do in my agenda before Easter. The Chilterns classic, South Downs...
