I don't know. I'm finishing planning the route in ridewithgps. It'll be aprox 75km from home to the start following cycle paths mainly. That's 4 hours but it'll be in the dark at the beginning, so minimum of 5 hours including stops and wrong turns...maybe 3am? Uhmmm...yes, it's too early.

Jamie & Remi... thought you two would like the look of this ;)

Anything at 30miles+ (off road!) looks good. New scenery adds to the appeal. Just not this week. I wait for the hailstorm ;-)

I'm sure you'll be fine Harry... Just remember to bring enough food ;)

I usually go with a couple of ham rolls on top of the usual cereal / energy bars.

Weather is looking good :)

Might also be a good idea to bring lights just incase we get caught out on the timing of the return leg ;)

I see from your GPS link and from some other threads i have read about this route that there is water taps at various points, did you use any of the water taps along the way mate? Water for 80 miles (7-8 hours) is quite a bit of extra weight to carry even though it might not seem like it. If they are good to use then i can probably take half of what i was planning.

Don't think well make 80 miles ;) but I see where you're coming from.

I've not used the taps but I'd assume they were fine to use if they are marked on the route map from the site I linked.

The route passes at least one petrol station and runs through Wendover... I'm sure there will be a shop or similar.

I'll carry 2lts in my back pack and a 750ml bottle this will be plenty for me with one pit stop and I drink a fair amount.

The main thing is food really... I got caught out the last time I rode it by not eating enough... soon enough. At the end of the day it's not the wilds of Wales or the Highlands of Scotland... there's always a shop or pub nearby it just means that you spend time looking for a sandwich instead of riding ;)

How many miles are we planning to do before returning to car park? I'm going to try to ride to the starting point. Can anyone bring some water to the car park?

Oh I see this is the famous Ridgeway route? I heard about it on singletrackworld. List of water taps in the route:

I have put some extra water in the car if you need/want to fill your bottles there mate.
