Am looking for a new bike. are there any descent shops locally with a good range of mtbs, our local shops only seem to carry the common brands, was looking for a cube or something similer, i know i can get one online, but i would rather go and see before i buy, or can anyone recommend something a bit nice, full suspension is what i really want, about the 1500 pound mark.
Cheers Del.

Chelmer Cycles have a great range of Mondrakers and Cannondales at the mo. Both well worth a look. Also the Boardmans look pretty good but they are only sold via Halfords, and the problem with that is you have to talk to the staff!

Cycles uk have Cube, there Romford branch normally stocks them as do Leigh on Sea and southend branches but if its full suss you want i would call first to check stock, they defo had a selection of hardtails when i was looking a few weeks back..

Evans lakeside have quite a few full sussers of various makes. also theres that big hiking/cycling store in Romford that i cant remember the name but its sort of opposite the ice rink. they had quite a few specialized full sussers recently

Personally Ive found most local bike stores somewhat lacking, which is a pity as I'd prefer to buy my parts locally but they just dont have a large range compared to online places like CRC.

To be honest even £1500 is not going to be much to build a decent full suus, Ive recently rebuilt my bike and got commencal supreme Dh frame & Marzocchi 888 forks (£500), Mavix/Saint wheels £100, saint brakes, deraulier (£300+). Frame, forks and wheels were all 2nd hand from ebay but even then the total build cost is going to be in excess of a grand, although it is going to be a very tough DH bike so isnt quite the need to spend so much.

Les' cycles is shit. Fair range but the sales people dont know much.

Best bet is to research what you like and what you can afford, then go find a shop that has said bike in stock.

Evans cycles website has a good catalogue to browse.

Dont rush the route to a good bike. Its a lot of cash to spend and you'll kick yourself if you get it wrong (thanks Les')

Sorry to hear your experiance with Les's was poor, but if you deal with Les direct he's probably the most knowlageble bloke around, and if you want a scott bike there's only one place i would go in essex to get it (i know it means traveling) but Les's is great for the supply of bike i just wish he stocked more bling!

I must admit i went to les's and i found him to be a nice guy and quite knowledgeable, I looked at the Scott scale 60 which i thought was a nice bike at just under 1k but i felt i was a little too bent over in a race position, i also tested the Marin, Dawes, Diamond back which i liked and the whyte. I think he had GT and specialized in the shop too. So quite a range of bikes in there, worth going for a look. Also offered me a good deal for cash.

You could be the first on here to buy the bamboo framed bike? Then once you finished with it you could always groe grapes up it :D very eco friendly
