But if i dont ask i wont know....

on the list of things to do is fit a chain device (got a blackspire double knocking about in the garage) and remove the outer 44T and fit a bash guard / bash ring (depending on what site you shop  )

the outer on my deore chainset is a 44t so do i replace it with a 44t sized bash ring or do i buy a 32t bash ring so its the same size as the middle :?:

Same size as the middle ring, might wanna buy a slightly bigger one, I've got a 36t bash ring on a 34t ring

Just ensure it will clear your double ring tensioner

If you have a 32 ring go for a 32 - 34 bash - get as much ground clearance as you can

Ho hum... i appear to be getting lost in the Bash ring minefield !! Pay day is fast approaching so i'll be buying something but not 100% on what to get, When i was out last Wed i had make use of all my flaming gears including the outer !! if it hadn't of been there i'd have spun out way to soon to keep a decent pace up, but this was on concrete

so now i'm wondering if i can get just a taco that will hang off the ISCG mount ( not ISCG 5 as the frame is older!) and allow me to run all three or if i should just bite the bullit and fit a blackspire Dewelli and ditch the outer ??

I want it all..... i hate compromise LOL

anyone got any suggestions or bright ideas ? perhaps buying an ISCG mount taco / device and chopping off the tensioner, i'm not afraid to cut stuff up to get what i need

If your looking for suggestions, i'd go for either the:
E13 TurboCharger http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=40144 (had one myself)

Or to match brands the:
Blackspire RingGod C4 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=5357

(thermo)plastic over alloy for me, as it absorbs shock better and doesn't bend or corrode.

Both "up to 36T" which gives you room to grow if you swap your 32 for a 34 or 36 and still have plenty of ground clearance, well more than the 44T chainring used to give you!

Havent seen a blackspire for 3 but i was all set to go 2, before i had to use it !

this LG+1 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=50672 looks like the sort of thing that could save the day if it would fit on ISCG and hang level with or just below the 3rd as its small and tidy (i like that ! )

Perhaps ditching the 44t altogether, swapping the 32 to a 36 and fitting a dual is the answer that will cover everything...just ?

You cant run 3 chainrings and a bashguard. the bash goes where the big ring goes.

thats the E13 LG1 "taco" that fits to this chain device for single ring setups http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=66376

Yeah, but thats what i'm saying, it would be good (in my ideal world i live in LOL) if there was a Taco that hung directly off the ISCG they could come in a variety of sizes etc but be small and neat visually.

Have you checked this out:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31508

Taco bash for triple chain set

I'm not aware of something like this that also has a chain device (roller or jockey wheel to keep the chain on) but you could think about running a Shimano Shadow Plus rear mech that supposedly dramatically reduces the risk of chain loss and should be coming out in more affordable XT and SLX versions this year

This'll only protect the inner/underside of the chainset. If you hit a rock on the outer edge you'll stil bend your chainring/snap teeth. where as the outer bash guard would protect it all the way around (if that makes any sense lol)

I've slogged this decision to death but pay day will be here next week, i've used pretty much every gear on the last few rides so i'm going to plump for an upgrade to 36t (but which chain ring to choose, i'm inclined to just get a deore one to match my existing set ? ) a bashring and dual stinger as i think that will be the best all round set up.

<phew> never thought i'd get here !
