Anyone know of a decent low cost bike bag that does not cost the earth, plan on using it to store my bike in the flat rather the garage and once a year plane trip away (maybe)...

Would prefer a fully soft/just padded bag rather than a semi hard case as i might use it for putting in the car as well but can't see any

seen these which would do:

I have an old version of those.. a little bashed but will do what u need it to do £25 including wheel covers if your interested

If you want new then either of those will do the job very well

This is more cash but looks excellent as it is essentially a rip off of the very very good evoc

Loading and unloading the bike will be quicker

mmm very intrested in yours, does it fold away at all or is it quiet rigid in shape? I know the inside might be a bit muddy but whats the out side like?

Hello mate – it doesn’t really fold away. I guess you can bend it in half sort of but they need to have some sort of rigidity in order to protect the bikes. Inside of the bag is very clean,. Outside is grubby from being dragged through airports but not from bike mud etc. ill get a couple pics up tomorrow

Guys,

Stupid question but does buying an Evoc Bag at £250 do more for my bike in terms of protection than the CRC ones at half that money?

The assumption is that the EVOC bag will be better but that's based just on cost...

Having used both I would say that the same level of protection can be achieved with pads and lagging using a basic £60 crc bag. However the key difference is time and hassle. I used to dread packing the DH bike up in the CRC bag – it was a pain in the ass getting it all sorted. I was never confident about the protection staying in place when packing a long DH bike with 40’s. I never had anything damaged however.

Using the evoc bag is almost a pleasure and cuts packing time down by 2/3rds when going with a big dh bike with dual crowns. I rekon could get the DH bike packed and ready to go in 20 mins with the evoc bag.. and that includes rotors off and getting the mech taped up. £250 - £300 is a lot for a bag however.

The CRC rip off one seems to have disappeared.

I recommend the CRC bag, great value at £60, I couldnt really justify spending hundreds on a bag that gets little use.

I havn't had much hassle bagging up with it,although it is perhaps a little tight, but this does depend on your forks setup. Its pretty well padded, has lots of pockets and seperate bags for your wheels.

And one of the best points..wheels !.. I shared a transfer trip from Geneva and the other guy wheeled his CRC bag to the van whilst I huffed n puffed n dragged by knackered old bag there !

Don't know if some of the pricier models have wheels or not, perhaps they do.

As for protection, Im not sure many would protect against an aggressive baggage handler except maybe the all hard solid ones, but as aluded to above its worth spending time taking off brakes, derailuers and wrapping in bubble wrap...but ive had no damage so far |:)

I just bought a second hand alan bike box. it was 270 second hand. But my thinking was this better than getting to a foriegn airport with a bent wheel/rear tri/brake lever etc etc

took a road bike to spain, no issues, going to take mtb to spain over half term, and am pretty confident in it. I am glad I didnt buy a soft one. It may be expensive but do not forget airlines will not compensate for a bent bike, well, not a lot anyway!!

I know the thread started as wanting to use it for storage, but for anyone wanting to travel I recently discovered that the new bike shop in WGC Addiction will hire out the evoc bags at £25 a week I think he said. I still prefer Marshalls in WGC as a shop but that was quite nice to know I thought.

Hightower - I can't find them online - do you know their website or telephone number... £25 or even £35 is still better than £250 / £300 for a bag that I'll use once or twice a year!
