I have tried: 661 comp  Solid against impacts but don't stay up very well on my slim legs Troy lee Basic  661 kyle strait knees  Quite good but no shin protection Nukeproof Critical  Excellent protection and pretty good at staying up, just broke one of the D-rings and the Opening trim on the back of both legs has come off due to catching on the pedals when pushing up. So essentially i am looking for an alternative that is quite hard wearing but pleasant to wear. any suggestions or links? |

It has come down a lot lately. I am also keeping my eye out for a D30 style t shirt with back protection too i have the 661 subgear and that feels good, yet to crash in it though |

Personally im looking at a pair of these http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/p ... ee-guards/ if my troy lee t-bones ever give up the gost. Also had a pair of the troy lee lopez for three years and im still loving them. I use IXS soft shell knee pads and don't bother with the shins. I would prefer to have the odd gash on my shin and make sure my knees don't die on a crash. |

I've got the 661 D30 knee pads (http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/i ... justed.jpg), and love em, fit great and so comfy, havnt really tested the magic D30 properties of them yet but there are You Tube vids of people getting hit on the knees (and head) with shovels, etc and they survive..they are pretty long so cover quite a bit of the shin too. They seem a great improvement on rigid types, why not tae advantage of the new technology is my view. There are various full body/back versions around now but some are quite new and arnt in many shops at the mo. Andy |

I'm using 661 Kyle Strait knee pads combined with Nike football specific shin guards and this gives me the option not to wear the shin pads if they are not needed:) |

I read in a pedal review that if you remove the back row of pins from your pedals you don't get gashed as is that row that does the damage  no idea if this is correct, the pedals (cant remember their name now) were meant to be the next big thing and you could screw in different sized pins etc but i do remember getting a bear trap stuck right into my shin once in the 80's and it was indeed at an angle, it may be to do with the way the pedal rotates as it hits your shin the top will push away (least resistance) but that means the bottom will be forced into the leg ? anyway... back on topic, the football shin pads are a reasonable idea ! |

Sods law says the gap inbetween the shin and the knee pads will be the pedal strike zone! i feel your bear trap pain! i have done that many times |

Thanks for the link they have that strap that goes behind the knee joint i can't stand them i prefer a sleeved type |

My Kyle straights are fine but tend to work their way down when i wear them over leg gins, this is ok though as although my knee is mostly exposed my shin is now covered ! hope this helps
