Hello all..Ive always fitted a small amount of copper grease on the back of my brake pads.. im about to fit new 785XT calipers with ceramic pistons and im wondering if its ok to use copper grease on these?...thanks for any advice..Z |

I wouldn't bother. I have the very same brakes and have had no issues with them. Do you know if the copper grease would be ok with the piston seals? |

Don't do it it will more than likely stick the pistons or get on the pads. just pop them in and leave it at that |

What is the copper grease supposed to do - stop squealing? Anyone know how it does that? |

In cars yes, stop the vibration of the pads and also stop the pads getting seized in. |

It used to be recommended years ago to stop corrosion f the back of the pads and to stop them seizing to the piston to aid removal. Also used to stop brake squeal, just adds a bit of slippy lubrication between the 2 metal surfaces and stops the vibration that causes squeling |

It only really stops vibrations on large surface areas like car brake pads |

^^ used on car brake pads to stop the steel squealer shims rattling and misaligning on the back of the pads and also used to stop aluminium Galvanic corrosion where steel and aluminium fuse together, use it anywhere the two metals come into contact, alloy seat posts in steel frames is good place to use it. but i'm not sure i'd use it on bike brakes as they're too small and the pads are made of monkey metal anyway ! |
