Hi, im new to spd peddals , ive recently bought two pairs off fleabay but cant get on with them. The problem ihave is that there is to much movement or float. Is this normal? Im used to look road pedals and my feet are held firmly in place and I was expecting this from the spd's. Do I need to stop being a cheapskate and buy a new pair or do all spd pedals have a lot of movement/float?

What model did u buy? Some are designed to have some movement, good for the knees. I use time atac xs and couldn't get on with shimano because I used to clip out round corners when I didn't want to..

If you have the cleats setup correctly and you don't want much float then with shimano pedals you need to screw the binding adjusters in. If you're used to road pedals with little float then I assume you know how your knees will cope! Also I assume you are using new cleats with your shoes. Worn ones will have more float.

Shimanos also played my dodgy knee up I've had various crank bros pedals and a slightly lower seat with no knee trouble

Thanks for the replies. I dont know what model pedals I have but I do have the adjusters turn up as far as they go, maybe they are just old and worn out, just like me. With the look road pedals I use with no float whatsoever I never had knee trouble but I understand what you mean and will probably get it in the near future. The cleats I have are a bit worn so I'll get some new ones and see if they help. If not then I will buy a new set and hope that there will be next to no movement .

Went to danbury this morning with new cleats and I have to admit that there wasnt as much movement, still more than I like but I suppose I'll get used to them. Thanks for the link, I wish I bought them as they arnt much more than I paid for second hand ones.
