After riding on maxxis minions for almost a year and getting used to them on all terrains, i forgot how slow they can be, however they are not as slow (or grippy) as the specialized butchers i currently have on on my main wheels.

Last weekend as i was riding a few miles i decided to ride on my spare wheels fitted with nobby nics, bloody hell they are fast in comparison to what ive been riding previously, these lacked grip but the speed was good fun.

The butchers are only going to be used when riding the likes of Aston hill, so im after a faster rolling set of dh tyres for the rest of the time, what do i go for, another set of minions or high rollers or something else?

After much discussion I'm going for muddy Mary's on my dh Freeride bike
I have high rollers on the krisis and may run some tabletops in the summer

High Rollers or ADvantages are both great and run pretty well in all conditions.

Love nobby nics on the xc bike in most conditions, just lower the pressures in the wet slop.high rollers deal with most things but swamp things in wet mud with roots(aston black run)playing around with pressures seems to be as importent as choice...for me anyway.

Nobby nics with some DH tubes (to save on pinches) work everywhere for me, but can get shredded on the steep under heavy braking.

Big volume and massive sidewalls only really needed for proper DH like Aston

My opinion

Some of the stuff I have run.

I run minions supertacky and also a Minion XC with the Exo- the latter rolls much faster (and much lighter) but feels very similar. Not cheap though.

I have a Conti Rubber queen 2.4 on the back of one bike. Great tyre.

Most recently I have put a Hans Danmf on the front of my 29er very impressed- they come in grippy (front) and fast (rear) and are 2.4.

I've been running a 2.4exo minion dhr II on the rear and a 2.5 swampthing on front for the last month. The grip is unbelievably good in the mud going down but I was struggling on the uphill and flat sections in afan last weekend. I think single ply minion or high roller 2 is what I'd go for for xc/am
