Post subject:  Low budget replacement cranks?
Hey guys. Recently managed to snap the crank arm on my GT and need to replace both crank arms and the pedals. I was wondering if anyone knew of any semi-decent crank arms that arent going to break the bank? I think I need a square taper, not too sure though. Would also like to keep as much of the current setup as I can to keep costs down..

If its square taper you are on a hiding to nothing, i would just replace it with a like for like.

If it's square taper then it's going to be low cost anyway. If it is a square taper then I've a triple set you can have for £15 that's seen very few miles.

If you've fooked it though I'd suggest upgrading the bottom bracket and go for something a little more hardy :)

I'm sure most people here have fooked plenty of square tapered cranks... I know I have...

If it is square tapered think about changing the bottom bracket to PowerSpline or Octalink - they are going to be the cheapest upgrades. Or find a bottom bracket and crankset on eBay.

What model/Year GT do you have?

Without knowing what you have right now this would be a good buy if you wanted to upgrade it all and keep costs right down...

The bike in question is a 2009(?) GT Chucker xs2. It's currently running what would appear to be a square tapered BB. It also has no removable chainring, so I've gotta add that in, aswell. Needs to be a single chainring on it, I'll see what the toothcount is once I've got the blighter of.

If you where closer to central london and had a crank/bottom bracket removal tool, you could have my old Shimano Deore triple crank set and bb for free! Just need to take them of the frame.

Ok i have a super strong isis truvative Hussefelt single speed crank. the bottom bracket has a tiny bit of play but could have been fitted wrong come off a p2 jump bike 68mm x 118 Image

I have a old square taper crank you can have. its not pretty but its a truavtive one

Pfff you don't need new cranks, a bit of gaffa tape and you're away!
I've had a look here: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Defa ... cnyVBpDulj and you have to go all the way back to 2006 before the chucker changed bottom bracket and cranks. 2007 onwards it seems it had a splined BB such as ISIS. Best way to find out is to remove the rest of the crank and the bottom bracket. You should then be able to determine the type and the BB shell and spindle width. Post pics on here if you need help.

If it is a square taper, dirtrackdel (Marco) on here is about to remove one complete with bb, chain rings etc

On a different note, how the hell do I mesure BB size?
