Cyclocross is my thing, but have been tempted to do some MTB racing as prep for the cross season. Got a steel hard tail which is nice for general training but would want something competitive for racing. I'm not kidding myself as I finish in the 30 to 40's in a cross race out of 110 riders so kind of expect the same in a MTB race but want to be as competitive as I can. So, I am tall (6-4), and everyone is saying that 29ers are the way to go for racing and are better for taller riders. A carbon 29er would be right then? Focus/Canyon look good for the money... |

If your going to race XC then 29ers are the only choice. the Canyon is probably the best value out there at the moment. |

Hi If its pure racing then go for it but if you think you may find yourself riding a few recreational trails with us then I can recommend the Kinesis FF29. Light as anything and quick, but if you want to it will take a 120 mm fork at the front and is great on the trails. Nigel |

Thanks for the advice. Got my Attitude 853 for general trail work so really need a race machine. Just wondered if 29ers was just a fad or the 'only way to go' for xc racing. It seems to be the latter. |
