Hi, My camber rear slx derailer is dieing/ dead. I have seen on elite ... xr model ?. Question if I get a replacement what benifts are there in up grading to it - long cage .... Also should I change the front derailer and do I have to change the gear levers as well. If it gets to complicated I will stick to the SLX wwhich served me well. ( miss use and wear and tear is the faults. Comments welcome. Bob ( I aim considering getting nr 14 bike as a replacement as the cost gets higher and then a new one looks glossy ) FSR Stumpjumper carbon black beast .) ( I will wake up in a minute and smell the thorn bushes ) Bob |

No need to change the front if only the rear is in trouble. What size chainrings are you running up front, if you have 3 rings you will probably need a long cage, if you have two a medium cage and if its a single then a short cage (some triples will work with a medium cage too !) |

Hi, Thanks . It is a triple . Can I take kinks out of the chain to shorten it and take slake out of the chain with out to much effect. The slx looks a sturdy rear derailer so thinking it is worth keeping . the jockey cage area is opening out and loosing the chain - dont think that bit is replaceable as riveted on. When I started costing it all up the jockey wheels and bits a new one ( 35 pound s chain reaction.) looks like a good investment. well done you answered the question of the lengths . Bob (Still learning ) |

Hi Bob, If you've had SLX and are happy then get it again - why waste money? You run 3 x 9 so long cage 9spd SLX will be fine - CRC and £39.99 - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=28033 Lets face it if your current SLX if giving up the ghost then it probably has been for some time so a new one will be spot on! See you out on the Thurrock loop soon mate Stumpie |
