I'm running 2x10 on all my bikes but this does open another avenue of bikes im looking at, for instance the on-one codiene doesn't have capabilities to run a front mech
They say it has 1x11 in mind?

Right test the bike at thorndon, Danbury and swinley now, first off no chain coming off problem (one of my mates is running same set up but no guide and he's had no problems either). Gearing then, 32 works with out a problem but (and its a big but) its just not as efficient as a general rule. What I mean by this is on my other bike I am riding 39/26 crank and 36/11 cassette, in the 39 it is perfect for 80% of riding on flat, downhill and most local small hills (might be a grind at time but then I have got the granny to drop in to for longer and steeper section). On the flat (which there is lots in this park of the world) your legs have to put less effort in for one rotation than if I was running the 32. You basically spin the crank more with the 32 than with 2x10 set up. As for the 42 sprocket, think this could work, still be able to climb but run a 34 or 36 up from to get the efficiently back. £100 though =( |

If you email the 42t company you can get 15 dollars off, 85 works out as 51 quid so not so bad. |

Hhhmm. Cost is about double for the General lee one and reviews say its very worn after a few months, i did find a diy version whilst googling but looks like a bit if an abortion ! |

Matt don't you think switching from 26 to 29 had also affected your gearing though hence the less effort on the flat |

Exactly, makes a huge difference on gearing going from 26 to 29. |

Think you do need to taylor the gearing for the wheels as much as the terrian you are likely to use. Struggled at swinley a little with the steaper climbs at times but still got up. |

Increasing wheel size has the same effect as reducing the cassette size there's probably a formula for working it all out of you can be arsed |

I'm going for this chain ring narrow wide narrow rather than the single specific one as the chain may not be wide enough. http://hispanoracing.com/catalogo/articulo/plato-rotor-q-ring-mtb-qx1-bcd76 32 or 34 teeth for 29" hard tail. That's the question |
