Dont worry VW. We will soon start pimping the girls bikes too give it another year or two. Mine is already after a bmx so she can go to Great Baddow or Maldon track with her older brother. Should have not shown her the mafia bikes 16" pink bmx. Money just flies with these kids.

Thanks for the fork info. Weight and price is what cought my eye. I thought there must be a catch. As you said, as long as i dont jump on his bike it will be fine for him.

Whytey - update on the Zee setup - arrived today and it all looks very nice... except the Zee shifter - it's the size of a house... so backed that and have ordered a 10spd XT.

Your time will come mate. Your time will come and you will soon be moving into the garage amongst parts and tools ;-)

Stumpie, thanks for that. I did not realise your son's bike is too in the making. I thought you had completed it already. We should get the boys out to celebrate the new toys when complete. I am still behind with the components though, have left the most expensive bits at the end.

Useful info about the shifter as I had my eyes on the Zee set. Let me know how the XT will be. The Zee derailleur looks solid though so I will go for that. Is the clutch mechanism any useful? Have not read much about its purpose, maybe I should.

Fork and crankset next on the list. Need to spread the cost a bit as i am getting the 'What? £200 a fork? Tesco sell the whole bike for half that!' treatment......and I have not spent anything yet!

Slowly but I am getting there. Fork and Crankset in. The 32T ring looks so small, I wonder if I should have gone for 34 or 36 but I let the little one decide on that. The Kashima Coat fork was a bargain, at least I hope so, at £190 through a friend of a friend. Longer travel than I needed but for the price its worth trying.

Blown the budget already (so easy to do) and still brakes & gear set to go. Getting the usual 'what a waste of money' thing, especially before the holiday, but what does wife know, eh? I have the son on my side ;)

Yeah, I was well pleased with them. Overall, not a scratch on it. Have not been used for a while so a service may be required though. Do you guys know anyone local who does a good job with forks, privately?

How are you getting on with the Kona? Completed by now? I have been looking at the XT shifters you got. They look as small as it can get for a decent kit.

Forgot to mention that I need the wheelset too. I did have a pair but I sold them back last week, I realized I can find better for a little extra, it was a bit of a rushed purchase.
