I suspect my BB is shot. The problem is the thread on the crank is screwed so going to have to use a mallet to remove, any one know how well it will go back on afterwards??

I am planning to replace the whole drive train after the London to brighton in june so don't want to do it now if I can help it.

If extraction thread if knackered, hammer is the only way im afraid. Shouldn't effect it going back together after though.

Thanks Nick

if I can frankinstien it back together with just a cheep bb id rather do that, get the ride out the way then replace the whole lot, it probably will need new cables and a service afterwards so will beheading your way at some point.

In addition to what Nick said...

A ball joint splitter should do it.

Also aluminum expands a lot more than steel so maybe get a heat gun on it to help the process. Keep it away from the frame obviously.
