I went for the 'Volt 300' because I'm a tight b******d :D

But I'm guessing you want no less than 600 lumens for a forest ride.

600 lumens, need treble that for some of the forests and woods, it's pitch black in the woods and you need more light to see anything. As laser has said some of the cheaper imports or UK lights offer at least 1200 or 2000 + lumens

I use magic shine! 1600 lumens on the bars & 2000 lumens on me nut! You can buy direct from them, very good customer service ! Be carful of some Chinese models ! Basically most of the lamps are the same it's down to magic shine's charger's which have a overload protection built in hence the extra cost! The last thing you want is a house fire over a £30 light ay!

Most of the Chinese ones are fine. The battery cells usually have overload protection. I usually buy then and then take them apart and correct the bad soldering and thermal conductivity to the heatsink, that is the main problem. Cell quality is quite variable though, cheap batteries are usually unbranded or something like trust fire so are very hit and miss regarding performance.
Quoted lumens is a pointless measurement as there is no standardised way of measuring it. You only have to look at the eBay sellers of the Solarstorm x2's claiming things like 6000 lumens on 2 cree u2's, which is impossible.

The sun is approx. 3x10^28 lumens be a while before the battery technology can achieve that sort of brightness.
