What size have you got at the moment? would not go shorter than 740mm even for xc

It's not for my bike, it's for my sons Rockhopper. He is a small 13 year old on a 15.5" frame, I need to measure the bars, but when out riding today, he looked stretched on the bars, it looked like I could take 15 to 20mm of each end. I also need to shorten the stem (from 80 to 40mm I think) and raise the bars on the stem, it does have a spacer above the stem I could move to the bottom. He is basically a little too stretched out on the bike.

Change the stem first and then look at cutting down (you can't add bar material once it's cut, strange that)

Good call. I'm going to visit the Specialized shop and see if they have a shorter stem with a steeper uprise.

Dave, i have some shorter bars you can have. Then when he gets a bit bigger you can swap them back. Got some 670mm and 730mm.

Dave try grips in rayleigh they are an independent spesh dealer far better than the concept store. I had to demo my enduro from the concept store and the mistakes made were unbelievable so I walked away and went back to my trusted LBS

Adam, can you explain more?
Paul who runs the shop is the guy with all the knowledge, the others, I'm not too sure about, but as far as having parts in stock, the shop is quite good.

Measure the stem if it's 50mm you are not going much shorter, if it's longer you can do a quick test. Say you want it 20mm shorter, move the saddle forward 20mm, try for size, if it suites buy a 20mm shorter stem remembering to move the saddle back to the original position.

Problem on a bike that's a bit big is to make a smaller cockpit, it's easier to make a smaller bike bigger in the cockpit department.

The stem is 80mm.

Good point regarding the seat, it can actually move forward by about 20mm, the seat is positioned exactly in the middle at the moment.

the bars are also low rise, maybe I should consider getting some that have a higher rise.

I'd go for a 50mm stem first, that would make a world of difference.

I ride with a 50mm stem and 85mm rise bars, never been comfortable with long stems and flat bars
