Just been reading a post on Pistonheads, It got me thinking,
What would you see as the perfect propsition of a future proof frame?

1.5" steerer (to allow tapered or 1.5"
Replaceable dropouts, (QR, bolt through etc)
    adjustable suspension settings?

The list is endless in my opinion, but what would you say is next thing to change and make our current bikes worthless?
the Bikeradar video from a couple of weeks ago really put a dent in the 27.5" - 650b armour, all it would take is someone to prove one way or another that carbon rigid forks were the best for DH and things could all change again? ;)

Thoughts?

Frame proofing to be Shimano Di2 compatible with internal battery mount in the down tube and all the required ports for clean internal routing.....like my Pivot frame!!

Sounds interesting, how's it fit in? like a little cut out with panel?

Yes basically http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Pivot-Mach-429-SL-di2-compatible-routing-carbon-29er-29-inch-5.jpg

Not sure how reliabe this would be for MTBing in the slop and mud over Epping!

Epping slop gets everywhere!
interesting idea that though, i think i would of put it on the top side of the frame though?

I think the future for a lot of bikes is adjustable geometry like you get with the canyon strive or Cannondale Jekyll, though I would be the first to say its all well and good having a climb and descend settings but what do you do for the flat?

Trail!

Adjustable is one thing but different standards like press fit
BB and English / Italian threads are almost impossible to predict.
I'm surprised my two yank bikes don't use imperial thread!

I see the new trend of electric trail bikes might impose a bit on out mtb scene?

I think I'm future proofed, my bike can take any size fork1/8 1/5 taper or straight has adjustable geometry and last but not least can use either 26" or 650b wheels.. :)
So I'm well happy

You would think so, but i'm sure theres a curve ball sitting just around the corner. For instance, going 1.5" steerer's? or 27+ wheels which one of my mates in the industry reckons thats going to be this years big push?

I really don't see why anyone would or should need an eclectic bike (bar being disabled, being lazy does not count). Other thing I read about last week was that the Chinese had developed a new steel that is stronger than titanium, lighter than titanium but still flexes as well as titanium :geek: I know its not future proofing but it's quiet interesting that steel might come back manufacturing big time

That's interesting as steel is easier to modify when standards change.

It's all marketing though by bike manufacturers , I say if your happy with what you've got don't get suckered into the hype machine..:)

Interesting read, can't see it replacing carbon any time soon especially as it will cost more than titanium for the foreseeable future. Wonder how much testing has been done on it so far, fatigue and stress/strain tests etc etc. One to look out for though.
