My son has a small frame Rockhopper. Seeing Stumpie's son on a full Sussex at the weekend has got me considering changing the Rockhopper to a stumpjumper FSR. I have asked the shop for a trade in quote, but I suspect it will be too much money.

What other quality full suspension, small frame 650b MTB's could I consider? (That would have a list price less than £2.5k)?

A bird aeris might be worth looking at as they come in xs and s. Available to demo near swinley.
Giant trance might be available around that price too.

Your son won't like me saying this.... but he will learn a lot about bike control and smoothness riding a decent hardtail over a full sus, how old is he and how long has he been on the rockhopper? Also plenty of second hand 26" bargons to be had

Dave, Jamie is 12 and been riding Bedgebury, Swinley and even Wales since he was 8ish. It was only this year that I got him the full sus.

I'm with Matt, leave him on a hardtail for a bit (perhaps pimp that a bit ?). That way in a year or so if he's still into riding he'll be bigger and better equipped to go full sus.

And if you can't wait or indeed don't want to then checkout the Canyon Nerve. It comes in xs and is spot on for money and spec - I nearly ordered one for Jamie several times.

Lastly, if you want your son to get into riding then bring him out with the group, Jamie has been badgering me about Swinley so I may see about a group ride like Bedgebury on Sunday but to Swinley ;)
