This is MTB, no rules other than no lycra used as outer wear Decent pair of shorts and a half decent breathable top and your good to go. As soon as you start matching your gear to your bike you know your only a hairline to becoming a roadie |

MotoX shirts for the venting & tear/snag resistance & loose fit. But not MotoX gloves as the constant gear shifting destroys the thumbs Long shorts to avoid them catching in the tops of your knee pads. I personally like football shin pads ( in soft loamy brambly Herts. forests ) to avoid painful pedal/shin interface incidents & are more breathable at the back & have ankle bone protection & are cheap |

Have bought some stuff from www.mountainbikebitz.com and www.dirtbikebitz.com (same company) The MX tops seem to make good trail jerseys, well vented. The Euro Lycra XC race look is all a bit Village People as said above, people may shun you as being a bit odd. |

I ride with Chatman & VW all the time and am lycra'd up most of the time with a DH jersey. Thing to do is get out and ride and then find what's comfortable for you. Still after what Chatman said I'll keep an eye on him next time |

Its all what feels the most comfortable. I always ride with knee pads (saved myself a few times plus more comfee when fixing bike on the floor in woods) so baggy shorts with padded linner and loose fitting breathable top (prefer long or 3/4 as saves the arms on all the thorns and tree branches, same reason for longish socks) |

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/661- ... prod129511 661 rage but the 2014 version, don't buy the cheaper riot as they are pants and don't stay in place, more expensive evo look like a good bet |
