What are peoples thoughts on the helmet? i like the idea for hardcore trail use (eg surrey hills) / wales trips / enduro but not sure it is worth it. I know there is also the met parachute that is worth a look as well but really don't fancy a full face on the ups even if its a light one...

I think they are a good idea and I can see us all going that way at some point.

Considering the majority of us NEVER just go for a ride round the park the additional protection has got to be worth it.

Jamie (my son) has a Mett Parachute and is happy to wear it for hours and hours - as does and is VWSurfbum who I am sure will be along shortly (assuming he can walk right now...).

And I think Lee rode up Blade with the chin guard in his backpack and then when it came time for the downy bits clipped it in for additional security.

I like the idea of the bell over the met for the same reason i prefer trail riding than dh, when the weather is lovely and nice i would rather be in comfortable shorts and t shirt than dressed up as a storm trooper sweating like 90's tv presenter in court...

I don't see myself riding anything than i normal ride on a trail day but i would see myself pushing a little bit quicker (so more likely to come off ect). i still have a dh full face lid for when i am going to be very silly

Totally

Just don't discount the Met - I'm not sure it's that much hotter than an Enduro lid - if at all ;)

I think they are a great idea.

If the cost is right why not go for it.

See a few riders wearing them now, The Bell one I am just waiting for it to get to a reasonable price, also two variations of it one with MIPS and the other not. Think Lee has the MIPS one.

I have the Super (non-chin) version of this and it's a really good mix of strong and vented, my only complaint is the chin strap needs adjusting a little each time you put it on.

My 2penneth, the chin guard doesnt make you any hotter, so why not always keep it on?
The parachute is lighter and stronger than the Bell so it makes sense, only downside i've found is when you stop for eating and drinking ;)

Lighter, yes, but only by 22g (700g V 722g). Stronger, yes (meets all full face helmet requiements (but then look at what a ull face can take at rampage or dh WC level and think they are built above and beond my needs)) but is not as versitile. Going to try both on togeather as only had a play with both at different times.

But its not replacing your DH lid, its giving you the cover of a DH lid with XC venting, the chin guard doesnt make it any hotter, so why bother taking it off, so if your not taking it off then why get the weaker/heavier helmet unless it doesnt fit?

I know a few that ride with the bell, and most remove the chin guard on transitions. I haven't tried it but there must be a reason they do. That said I also know guys that have parachutes as well, all of them praise both the helmets. Guess it's another one of those times that you buy and use the one you prefer.

I bought one specifically for my trip to Vegas where I was doing a read mixture of riding, XC type stuff and then real gnarly Dh runs, so it was ideal, just to put chin bit in my back pack and put it when needed, it is of course a lot cooler than my standard DH lid wlthough this is never on for more then 5-10 minutes a time.
