Post subject:  Which Pads???

Hi all,

I currently x2 sets of pads, a set of new Dainese trail skins which I use for general trail riding & a set of POC VDP knee pads which I purchased last January from CRC! I'm over the moon with the trail skins , light, breathable, non slip £40! The POC'S are very comfortable but I've noticed the stitching has started undoing around the back which has left a fook off hole???

Always looked after my gear?, really didn't expect this from POC ,I'm awaiting CRC reply!

so the pads I like, Bliss, ISX anyone run these pads?

P.s I did have 661 but was a little to big but they was comfy!

like aggressive trail riding (AM) I guess!

I have the Troylee 5450 knee pads. Find them very comfy and decent enough protection for general riding.

I have Alpinestar MOAB knee and shins for when i am doing uplift days etc. can't really pedal in them but you can skid down a mountain on them :)

@simon..

Just wondered what size " trail skins " you have, how the sizing matchs up to the Dianese size chart when ordering.??

I've read on the interweb that the sizing chart is way off compared with actual product..??

Went for medium mate! was spot on  fit! they do come up alittle small so if your in between sizes maybe opt for a large!

So after my double departure from my bike as in my other post I ordered some "Dainese Trail Skins" got medium and large as you do ( crc free returns :D ) tried them on yesterday and sent them back this morning..
Basically one to big, one to small..
I've been reading the interweb, which is always a bad idea.. now I've no idea what to choose too many choices.!!
Don't want hard shell I'm not hardcore enough but at the same time I don't want some that are just gloryfied knee warmers.
So I'm looking for some light duty pads any suggestions ..??

G-Form are good as a light duty pad. Had some myself in the past and my son is on his second set. They work well to protect from little bumps... he usually crashes at least once per ride ;)

They are also surprising effective in a big off... you could see the negative outline of the pad on Irving's leg where the bruise stopped where the pad started.

Must admit I prefer Trail Skins myself.... maybe join a gym to try and bulk up to the next size.... or eat more cake ??

Just to check with the trail skins.... you know the pad itself doesn't need to be that tight as the velcro grips top and bottom do a pretty good job of holding them in place.....

Yep these pads dont move, nice & cool in summer months & keeps your knees warm in winter!

do sometimes get alittle chafing due to velco strap but easy adjusted.

I couldn't get the medium done up and the large were just too floppy, I understand they are not meant to be a snug fit on your actual knee cap but they just didn't feel right
I'll keep looking there are plenty more out there.. :D

Think my new choices are 7iDP or RaceFace..

I have the Raceface Ambush in large. Over a year old and no sign of fraying. I like how they can be fitted without removing shoes and are comfortable enough to forget they are on, although I don't always wear them on lighter duty rides.

Post subject:  Re: Which Pads???

@pabloGT.. They are on my shortlist but I think they could be overkill for me at the moment, I also like the way you can fit them without shoe removal..
May I ask what you thigh measurement is so I can gauge the large size ..?? :shifty:

17.5" which should put me between a medium and large. I like how the large fits and they way they velcro up means its not such a concern as there is adjustment there.
