Post subject:  Replacement rim recommendations

I have had to replace a spoke in my Inferno 27 wheels on my Ariel and as the tyre is off a good inspection of the rim reveals plenty of dings and a slight gap appearing at the joint.

I am not a light trail rider i will jump off most things and am not shy through a rock garden or two.

Ideally i would like to stick to a fairly wide rim like this one being 27mm without sacrificing too much weight.

The Inferno 27 rim comes in at 482g according to the manufacturer.

I have been considering

Mavic Ex721's - Bit heavier at 590g

DT Swiss 533d's - touch heavier at 520g

DT Swiss Ex471's - lighter at 475g but need specific nipples etc

I don't get the stans rims everyone seems to have a different opinion of them and which are most suitable.

These are for a 26" wheel 32hole on a 160mm Saracen Ariel 162

Any thoughts would be greatfully recieved.

My EX 471 have a took a huge amount of abuse this year, snapped 4 spokes in Whistler, rode down a bit and the rim was still fine.

An insanely fast mate of mine rides stans flows and its one of the only rims he hasn't smashed

My ZTR's have taken loads of abuse over the years and still good. Built by SBC and only trued once after a few years, but probably going in again soon due to my continued abuse of them :)

+1 for EX471, nipples weren't a problem (and they come with the rim). Had to order from German website as couldn't get 26" version in UK. Lovely looking rim, nice and wide, but not too wide to affect tread. Nobby Nics go on/off really easy unlike my EX500s.

I'm a big lad and not scared to drop my bike so wheels have always been important to me...

I've eThirteen TRS+ wheels on my full sus and WTB ST i23 on my hardtail - both take a fair bit of abuse and keep on coming back for more.

If I were to replace them then I'd go for some Enve M70's but in the real world I'd love to take my eThirteen hubs (TRS+) and match them with the LG+ rimes from eThirteen and they are a fraction wider/deeper/stiffer.

Don't forget to check out the carbon options... have seen good performance from light bicycle ad blue-flow rims this year.

Yeah, a right touch.

Just need to source an axle conversion to 142 x 12

Hub Spacers, as I've got to do the same for a 135 to 142

Have a look here >> http://abbottsanncycles.co.uk/shop-category/components/hubs/
