The max voucher I can get through cycle to work is £1000 and it has to be spent at Evans.

On-One seem to offer the best bang for buck, but can't get one through Evans.

Evans sell

Specialized, Trek, Genesis Caribou, Charge Cooker.

I could probably put £500 on top of the voucher.

What would you buy / which is the best bang for buck? I want to steer clear of mechanical disc brakes, I would want full hydraulic.

Here is my review when i demoed a phat bike. The three biggest things that i would consider (if i was going to by a phat bike) is weight, geomentry and whether i would get one with a suspension fork or not.

Do like the look of the spesh fatboy as it looks more trail geomentry orintated complared to the charge bikes, lighter being alu and carbon fork and set up for winter with a 1x10 set up ect

do like the look of that trek though, quiet sexy for a phaty

Down sides of Spesh fatboy are the hubs (apprantly lots of reports of issues with them) and they are QR axles, not through axles.

Agree re the geo, reading lots of comments along the same lines (Spesh being more trail oriented)

I purchased a Bike through On-One using the cycle to work scheme. Be aware that I had to pay them a 10% admin charge out of my own pocket!

The other option I have is to buy a used bike.
Plenty of On-One fatties out there for sale with some good upgrades.......

I have a guy in my ear at work, screaming don't buy on-one......'made in China, must be shit etc'
you can get a used on-one fattie for between £500 and £750 depending on spec (and probably less when you start to haggle)

Ask him where he thinks Specialized bikes are made?

Lol, he doesn't like Spesh either.....

From what I have read today, on-one are made on a budget, but give a lot of bang for buck and are a solid bike.

I might buy an one-one frame and then build it up to my spec.

It ain't cheap doing it that way but what I would say is on-one wheels are heavy, and the forks.
Starting with the frame, a carbon fork and a decent set of wheels is the easy bit. Need special cranks and then the rest is standard

On one have their new Trail frame, so they must be selling off the old frames cheap to clear them out. Agree, that is a bargain price. I might grab it. I sent you a message on messenger, take a read a let me know what you think on the sizing.

Spec is a real issue. On most bikes, there are always bits I would want to change, so I thought I could get a good frame and then build to my spec. Hopefully finding everything on eBay or the UK Fat Bike sellers page on Face Book.

I'm thinking 1x11, bluto fork, nice set of light tubeless rims, sram or shimano brakes depending on what group set I choose (probably shimano).

I'm reading posts that a fat bike should not need a bluto, but the opinion is divided.
