Redtwo, sports direct sell padded cycle long legged shorts. Like your first link. These offer good leg warmth and also added dont get the muck all over legs either.

Along with a good pair of sealskinz socks keep you dry and warm all day.

I always just ride in shorts regardless of weather to be honest (will wear water proof 3/4 for when its wet or very muddy) and don't have a problem with heat, but i do wear knee pads as well. Will ride with different tops to suit weather though ect

I always wear shorts. Sometimes long sock when it's super chilli.
My issue is my toes freeze very quickly. I just bought some toasty toes (chemical heat pads) and used them on my last couple of rides and they are brilliant. Really thin and stick over your socks.

Shorts and running tights underneath work for me in most cold situations.

May well get some moto trousers for next year for DH duty but they do tend to make you overheat if any pedaling is involved.

Just got myself a pair of Shamino XM9 boots, seam to be really good.
Also wear long bib tights and when really cold I have a fleece lined pair.
Keeps me nice and warm when out fat biking.
