I've been used a round ring for a few months before trying an oval and would not go back. Don't think of it like upgrading a component bike (like changing you forks from a suntor to fox) but more like an improvement (like changing tyre compound of the same tyre ect). The two big pros are that it smooths out your pedal roation so it makes it climbing easiler as you spin less on techy/slippy sections. Secondary to takes less effort on your legs as its smoother so you find to tier less over a long ride (if that makes sense). If you sram cranks to may be able to run a spinderless ring which will say a bit more weight as well

Just switched to oval to try it out. Haven't noticed much difference apart from it requires a bit more effort in the power phase of my pedal stroke. Should be able to report back with a bit more feedback once I start doing longer rides in spring and summer.

With a Oval you get 4% more power
It does feel quit natural.

As Dave says bit of a popcorn question this one!

Tried a mates last Sunday 32t with 11-42 rear . same bike but slightly different parts & large, and it just didn't seem climb like what I would've thought ! Nice long slog & chainring made no difference.

I run 30t round with 11-36 10 speed block and he shot past me on my bike lol maybe different components ? not sure.

I switched to oval (absolute black 34t) just over a year ago and as above, I'll never go back to round. I found it slowed down my pedal stroke a touch but definitely helps when you need to apply a lot of power (climbing, sprinting etc). I also found a marginal improvement in traction.
