Hi

I have Avid Juicy brakes currently which came with the bike.

Would everyone agree that HOPE are the best to go for if I wanted to upgrade?

No, not in my opinion. I have tried most brakes and think avoids are the worst for brake fade. I have replied to other threads on here and always suggest formula. It's only my opinion but I have never had a problem with them. The Rx are great value. Hope this helps ya..!

Hi,
I run avid elixir cr with either Kevlar or sintered pads and love em. Only get a bit of fade when the pads get low, but the cr's have pad contact adjustment so you can tune it out on the ride. I also run Hayes stroker carbons on my hardtail which I mostly use to ride to work on. Picked them up in jan new on eBay for £95 the pair Inc rotors! rrp £165 each. These are proper stoppers, great when some tosser pulls out on you! They're very easy to bleed as well.
Sorry to go on, but in summery I'd recommend either. I think any brake in this sort of price range will work well if cared for.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Clay.

If you want to up you power cheaply and easily, increase the size of your rotor's (and adapters ;) )

Brakes have come on recently - I think most of the major brands mid range brakes these days are better than the top line ones from 3 years back. My pick would be the new slx - cheap - dont have to faf with dot oil and more than enough power unless ur are doing 30 min descents.

What re the current juicys u have? 3's 5's? Also what's most important outright stopping power or weight?
